From December 3rd to 8th, Caves of Sare will be opened from 1pm to 5pm*.
* you have to book ticket at 4.45pm for the last daily guided tour.
During the tour you will discover three topics : the unusual geology of a rather dry cave, a prehistoric habitation and the origins and mythology of the Basque people according to anthropologist José-Miguel de Barandiaran.
Listed among the most beautiful villages of France, Sare is a huddled village at the foot of the famous Basque mountain called «La Rhune».
With the villages of Ainhoa, Zugarramurdi and Urdazubi/Urdax in Navarra, Sare is located in the Xareta cross-border area Xareta.
Throughout history (Carlist Wars, World Wars) and in its activities (smuggling, night work…), Sare has always had privileged relationships with the other provinces of the Basque country on both sides of the border.
